D.A. Morrison School Adds Synchro Component

Dec 8, 2014   //   by Doug Shirton   //   Coaching, Latest News, Recreational, Synchro Ontario  //  Comments Off on D.A. Morrison School Adds Synchro Component

D. A. Morrison Middle School in Toronto has introduced a Synchro component to their aquatics program. Swim instructors Dave Wright and Samantha Yuhanov teach aquatics to approximately 400-500 students, aged between 11 and 13 in grades 6 through 8. Their aquatics program has typically focused on swimming skills, competitive swimming and water polo.  But to add variety and interest to the program, they are introducing a synchronized swimming component.   The component will last around 4-6 week with the students showcasing a one minute routine during the last session.

To start the component off right, the school invited the Variety Village Synchro Club to demonstrate group, duet and individual routines. Lead by their coaches, Tara and Ashley, they answered student’s questions and conducted a “Try Synchro” session. The students had a wonderful experience and they left with a new enthusiasm and respect for the sport. The girls with Variety Village also had a great time and enjoyed performing for the students. Congratulations, Dave and Samantha, for taking the initiative of expanding your student’s awareness of aquatic opportunities. We hope this becomes a permanent component to your aquatics program and will ignite a spark in the students to continue in the sport.
