2015 Volunteer Conference

 Join us for our Synchro Swim Ontario 2015 Journey to Excellence Volunteer Conference. This year we will be holding a one day conference on Saturday, September 12, 2015 as per the details below.

This year’s conference will be tailored to Club Presidents, Club Registrars, Volunteer Coordinators and Club Recreation Head Coaches and Program Coordinators (new this year). Clubs are encouraged to have up to 4 attendees if available. Conference sign-in will be from 8:00 – 8:30. Sessions will begin at 8:30am sharp with the day ending at 5:30pm. Continental breakfast, breaks and a full lunch will be included. The conference will feature guest speakers, panels and presenters. Past feedback indicated a need for more time to share and exchange information between clubs so we have planned the day to be very interactive with lots of time allocated to encourage the exchange of ideas. Accommodations on Friday evening, if required for out of town attendees only, will be at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Toronto Airport Corporate Centre, located at 5515 Eglinton Ave W, Toronto, Ont. ATTENTION CLUB COACHES: The Train to Train High Performance Athlete Development Program targeted for athletes aged 11-13 who are in the “Train to Train” phase of athlete development (ages 11-15) as per Canadian Sport For Life (canadiansportforlife.ca) is entering its second year.The purpose of the Train to Train High Performance Athlete Development Program (“T2T HPAD”) is to build the base of talent in Ontario and support the flow of future talent upwards in Synchro Swim Ontario’s High Performance Athlete Development Pathway. The program is designed for targeted athletes in the Train to Train CS4L stage and will be launched September 18-20 with a Train to Train High Performance Athlete Development Clinic at the Etobicoke Olympium. The program will continue through the 2015-16 season with 5 additional T2T HPAD Training Sessions building towards the pinnacle competitive events for the athletes – the 2016 National Championships, 2016 Age Group Championships and 2016 Trillium 12U Championships.The program sessions are as follows:Sept 18-20 (Fri 2-8pm, Sat 9-3pm, Sun 9-3pm) – Etobicoke OlympiumOct 18 – 9-3pm TPASCNov 15 9-3pm TPASCDec 13 9-3pm TPASCJan 31 9-3pm TPASCFeb 28 9-3pm TPASC **Tentative as conflicting with Regionals – new date TBA.

Stéphanie Leclair and Robert Prévost announced as Canada’s mixed duet pair for FINA World Championships

Pair will compete in Mixed Duet Free event on July 28-30 in Kazan, Russia

Ottawa, July 16, 2015 — Synchro Canada is proud to announce that 2012 Olympian Stéphanie Leclair, from Gatineau (QC), will join forces with synchronized swimmer Robert Prévost, from Montréal (QC), to represent Canada in the first-ever mixed duet event at the upcoming FINA World Aquatic Championships in Kazan, Russia, on July 28-30, 2015.

Both athletes have come out of retirement to train for the World Championships, where they will be entering the Free Duet event.

“We are very proud to be the first ever Canadian mixed duet,” stated Leclair.  “We can’t wait to go out to Russia and show the world what we’re capable of.”

“This is truly a dream come true for me,” added Prévost.  “I’ve been involved with synchronized swimming for so many years but I’ve never had the opportunity to represent my country in an international competition.  I’m very thankful for this opportunity and I’m glad I’ll be able to share it with Stéphanie who is a great duet partner.”

The pair is coached by Valérie Welsh, another 2012 Olympian, who will be accompanying them in Russia.

New event
The mixed duet is a new event on the synchronized swimming calendar and will be presented for the first time in a FINA sanctioned competition at the Kazan 2015 World Championships

About Stéphanie Leclair
Stéphanie Leclair won the first medal of her life at her second competition at the age of 5. At age 15, she moved to Montreal to continue her development in a new synchronized swimming club. Three years later, in 2008, she was selected for the Junior National Team and she won a bronze medal in duet at the FINA Junior World Championships. In 2009, she was selected for the Senior National Team.

In 2012 in London, Stéphanie was part of the Canadian Olympic team that finished 4th. She also represented Canada at the 2013, 2011 and 2009 FINA World Aquatic Championships where she won 2 bronze medal in the combo events, at the 2010 FINA World Cup where she won two bronze medals in the team and combo events, and was part of the Canadian Team champion of the 2009 FINA World Trophy.

About Robert Robert Prévost
Robert Prévost started synchronized swimming when he was 12 years old and immediately fell in love with the sport.  After many years as a competitive swimmer, he stepped into a coaching role and has been coaching synchronized swimming at CAEM Club in Montreal for 15 years.  He was an artistic director for various aquatic shows and performed with Cirque du Soleil at the opening ceremony of the 2005 FINA World Championships.

2015-16 T2T HPAD Selection

As per the posted Selection Criteria, selection to the 2015-2016 “Train to Train” High Performance Athlete Development Program was to be communicated by June 30, 2015 with notification of successful athletes communicated first to the Head Coach and Club President of the Club of the selected athlete. This was completed on June 30th. Following this communicated protocol, and successful communication to the applicable clubs, Synchro Swim Ontario has now posted a full selection memo for all members to view. Congratulations to all athletes selected.

Synchro Swim Ontario is pleased to officially announce the 2015 11-12 Provincial Team that will represent Ontario and Canada at the 2015 UANA Championships in Calgary, AB from August 17-22. The athletes, who represent seven different provincial member clubs, participated in a three phase selection process and will begin training for the UANA Championships in July. Synchro Swim Ontario wishes to congratulate all of the athletes that participated in the 11-12 Provincial Team selection process from February to June, as well as the final team of 10 athletes.

Pan Am Synchronized Swimming tickets are still available. Combining strength, flexibility, stamina, teamwork and grace, synchronized swimming encompasses all aspects of sport. Duet and team events will be features at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games and will take place at the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House in Scarborough. The judges will be looking at execution, artistic impression and difficulty in the technical and free routines. Countries to watch will be Canada, USA and Brazil. These three countries took two medals each at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara; Canada won two Gold, USA won two silver and Brazil won two bronze. Announcing Synchro Canada Regional Training Centre – ONTARIO

Synchro Canada is pleased to introduce its first Regional Training Centre in Toronto, Ontario.

In partnership with Synchro Swim Ontario, the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario and the TPASC Pan Am legacy pool facility in Scarborough, Synchro Canada is pleased to provide a world class enhanced daily training environment for Junior-aged synchronized swimming competitors.

The Regional Training Centre (RTC) – ONTARIO provides the level of high performance programming and Integrated Support Team (IST) services necessary for NextGen athletes who are 5-8 years away from the World podium to develop their performance to an international standard.

The Regional Training Centre (RTC) – ONTARIO is supervised and regulated nationally with the Synchro Canada High Performance Team leading the technical direction, and is managed on a day-to-day basis under the direction of the RTC Management Team and Head Coach. The Regional Training Centre (RTC) – ONTARIO will be affiliated with the Centre of Excellence National Team Training Centre in Montreal.

The hiring process for interested coaches beginning with the Head Coach will commence in early June. Trials for eligible swimmers will be scheduled in late June.
