Congratulations to our Ontario athletes who made Synchro Canada’s 2016 13-15 National Team! This team will be competing in the 2016 UANA Championships in Puerto Rico. Ontario Team members include:

JENSEN-LARGE, Olivia (Ottawa, ON – Regional Training Centre – Ontario)
McLEAN, Maura (Toronto, ON – Regional Training Centre – Ontario)

and Emma Spott who was also invited to the training camp.

New Coaching Certification Requirements at Novice Meets

The coach certification requirements at Novice Meets will change for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.  In order to be on deck at Novice competitions, all coaches will need to be Comp. Intro. Trained.

We are currently offering the following Comp. Intro Courses:

Synchro Swim Ontario’s 2016 JOURNEY TO EXCELLENCE Volunteer and Technical Conference  will be held on Sept. 10th – 11th, 2016 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Airport West/Mississauga.  We have much to share and look forward to two days of collaborative efforts to bring much value to all.  We are very excited with what we hope will be a highly informative and productive two days.

As per the posted Selection Criteria, selection to the 2016-2017 “Train to Train 2.0” High Performance Athlete Development Program was to be communicated by June 30, 2016 with notification of successful athletes communicated first to the Head Coach and Club President of the Club of the selected athlete. This was completed on June 30th. Following this communicated protocol, and successful communication to the applicable clubs, Synchro Swim Ontario has now posted a full selection memo for all members to view. Congratulations to all athletes selected.

SSO Announces 11-12 & 13-15 Provincial Teams

Synchro Swim Ontario is pleased to officially announce the 2016 11-12 & 13-15 Provincial Teams that will represent Ontario and Canada at the 2016 UANA Pan Am Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico from August 30-September 5. The athletes, who represent nine different provincial member clubs, participated in a three-phase selection process and will begin training for the UANA Championships in August.

Synchro Swim Ontario wishes to congratulate all of the athletes who participated in the 11-12 & 13-15 Provincial Team selection process from February to June, as well as the final selected teams.

Working with Head Coach Chihiro Ishii and Assistant Coach Brooke Whitney on the 13-15 Team, will be Meagan Caulfield. All coaches will work under the experienced direction of Program Lead, Sheilagh Croxon.

We are excited to begin this wonderful journey with our athlete & coaching team this August!

About the Apprentice Coach Position:
The Apprentice Coach position is a volunteer coaching placement, and is a tremendous development opportunity for young coaches looking to grow in the sport. As an Apprentice Coach, you will work in conjunction with the 2016 Provincial Team Coaching Staff, and SSO HP/Technical Lead Sheilagh Croxon, gaining first-hand experience working with some of Canada’s top high performance coaches in both a local and an international competition training environment.
Apprentice coaches will also have the opportunity to travel with the Provincial Teams to the UANA Pan Am Championships in Puerto Rico this August.

2016 Provincial Team Coaching Staff Announcement

Synchro Swim Ontario is pleased to announce the 2016 11-12 & 13-15 Provincial Team Coaching Staff that will be leading our teams to the 2016 UANA Pan Am Championships August 30-September 5 in Puerto Rico.

Working under the leadership and direction of the Synchro Swim Ontario HP/Tech Lead Sheilagh Croxon will be 11-12 Head Coach Elena Podolsky, 11-12 Assistant Coach Julia Maclean, 13-15 Head Coach Chihiro Ishii, and 13-15 Assistant Coach Brooke Whitney.

Synchro Swim Ontario is thrilled to have these four dedicated coaches working with our 2016 Provincial Teams. Please continue reading below for brief bios of our 2016 Coaching Staff:

11-12 Head Coach: Elena Podolsky
Elena Podolsky brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the 2016 Provincial Team. She is a certified NCCP Level 3 Coach and currently works as a coach of Olympium Synchro’s 13-15 FINA Team. Elena was the Assistant Coach of the Junior National Team in both 2014 and 2015, helping lead Canada to Gold medals in all events at the 2015 UANA Pan Am Championships in Calgary. In addition, Elena has acted as a Technical Expert as part of Synchro Swim Ontario’s T2T program, a consultant and coach at numerous clinics and camps, and has worked with the National Teams of Russia, Greece, and Slovakia.

11-12 Assistant Coach: Julia Maclean
Julia Maclean is a Competition Development NCCP Certified Coach, and currently works with both the Granite Synchro Club (coaching a 10&Under Team), and with the Regional Training Centre – Ontario (as an Assistant Coach). Julia has extensive experience working with Ontario’s Provincial Teams, having been the Assistant Coach of the 11-12 Team three times. In 2013-14, she participated in Team Ontario’s Coach Development & Performance Excellence Program, and in 2014 Julia was named Synchro Swim Ontario’s Coach of the Year.

13-15 Head Coach: Chihiro Ishii
Chihiro Ishii has been coaching in both Japan and Canada for over 19 years, and currently coaches Granite Synchro’s 13-15 FINA Team. Chihiro is a Competition Development NCCP Certified Coach. Chihiro has attended the UANA Pan Am Championships three times, once with her club duet, and twice as the Assistant Coach (2014) and Head Coach (2015) of Ontario’s 11-12 Provincial Team – bringing home a bronze medal in duet and a silver medal in team in 2015. She has twice been awarded the Best Coach in Eastern Japan Award, and has a proven track record of developing successful athletes both in her native Japan and in Canada.

13-15 Assistant Coach: Brooke Whitney
Brooke Whitney is a Competition Development NCCP Certified Coach. She is currently the lead coach of Gloucester Synchro’s 13-15 FINA Team & Solo, and also coaches with Nepean Synchro. In 2013-14, she participated in Team Ontario’s Coach Development & Performance Excellence Program. Brooke has been involved in Ontario’s Provincial Teams program as the 10&Under Assistant Coach in 2014.
Congratulations to the 2016 Provincial Teams Coaching Staff – we look forward to a tremendous program this summer and a successful competitive experience at UANA under your strong leadership!
