Synchronized Swimmer, Rachel Kowalski, Part of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Ceremony
December 27, 2009 - In Kitchener's City Hall, Rachel Kowalski (Granite Synchro Club), along with past Olympians and one other future Olympian, participated in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Ceremony as an invited guest at the Meet and Greet reception for the public. Later, the invited athletes moved outside to a reserved section in front of the stage where thousands of people gathered, cheered and awaited the arrival of the Olympic torch.  It was with excitement and pride when Rachel Kowalski was shown on the big screen and introduced to the City of Kitchener as one of Canada's local future Olympic athletes. Congratulations Rachel!
 

Synchro swim clubs raise over $39,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

November 27, 2008 - Synchro Swim Ontario member clubs across the province were once again in synch for pink raising an astonishing $39,207 during the 5th anniversary of the annual “Burning Bright for Breast Cancer” province-wide charity initiative in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Since 2004, Ontario athletes  have raised over $177,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. July 14, 2008 - Durham Synchro's Julia Maclean was part of Canada's Junior National Team who placed 5th at the FINA Junior World Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia. Julia placed 58th in figures (out of a field of 188) and 4th on the Canadian team.  Congratulations to Julia and the entire Canadian Team! July 7, 2008 - Granite Synchro Club's Jennifer Knobbs and Erin Willson brought home 4 medals from the Swiss Open as part of the National B Team. Jenn won silver in solo, Jenn & Erin partnered for bronze in duet narrowly missing silver (they were 2nd in free routine), and the team wrapped up the competition with a bronze in team and a silver in combo!

Burning Bright for Breast Cancer 2007

December 4, 2007 - For the 4th consecutive year Synchro Swim Ontario member clubs across the province participated in a province-wide charity initiative throughout the month of October for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Chapter “Burning Bright for Breast Cancer”. For the 3rd consecutive year Ontario synchro athletes have raised over $30,000, with a grand total for 2007 of $30,580.79!!! Congratulations!!!

The Ontario Provincial Junior team competed at the Espana Sincro in Barcelona, Spain this weekend against teams from as far away as Russia.  Also this weekend, at the V Synchro Peru – Aquatica Cup in Lima, Peru, Ontario’s 13-15 provincial team had amazing results as they competed with teams from around the globe. CAAWS/Levitt Family Honours Synchro Athlete Kristin Hayes

July 21, 2006 - Congratulations to Kristin Hayes, who after being recently honoured for her synchro accomplishments at Japan’s 15th Annual Festival for Synchro Swimmers with a Disability, has now, along with four other Canadian women received the Stacey Levitt Women and Sport Scholarship, that has been awarded by the Levitt family through the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS).

This is the 10th year that this scholarship has been awarded in memory of Stacey, “to a young woman, a girls’ team or sport organization that exemplifies Stacey’s ideals and qualities of participation, sheer joy of camaraderie, competition and teamwork”. Synchro Canada and Synchro Ontario are very proud of Kristin’s accomplishments and is delighted that her achievements in our sport, along with her extensive work in the community has been recognized with this special honour. Synchro Ontario announces Coaching Team for Ontario's Junior and Senior Provincial Teams

February 17, 2006 - Synchro Swim Ontario is pleased to announce the coaching team for the 2006 Ontario Provincial Junior and Senior Synchronized Swimming Teams.

Julia Warren was hired as Head/Mentor Coach for the 2006 Ontario Provincial Junior and Senior Synchronized Swimming Teams in January and joining the team for the Senior Program will be Elena Podolsky as Assistant Coach and Kristy McDonnell as Apprentice Coach. The Junior Team will see Jennifer Shaver as Assistant Coach, Katie Hammond as the Apprentice Coach, and Liz Simmie as Junior Team Manager. Press Release

Ontario athletes capture spots on National 13-15 Synchro Team

June 14, 2005 - The 2005 Canadian Espoir Synchronized Swimming Championships wrapped up on Saturday, June 4th where two Ontario athletes were successful in claiming spots on the new Canadian 13-15 National Team. Samantha Mawhinney of Synchro Optima and Katie Lepage of Durham Synchro will be representing Canada at the Comen Cup August 4-7 in Greece. Jadine Cleary of the Olympium Synchronized Swimming Club in Toronto was named Head Coach of the 13-15 National Team earlier this year, while Elena Podolsky of Synchro Optima in Toronto was named one of the Assistant Coaches. Waterloo Regional Synchro Club plays host to largest synchro swim meet in the country – the 2005 Tier Championships!

May 25, 2005 – The Waterloo Swimplex will be “in synch” May 26-29 as it plays host to the 2005 Ontario Synchronized Swimming Tier Championships. The competition, hosted this year by the Waterloo Regional Synchro Club, is the largest of its kind in Canada, with over 600 athletes from across the province competing over the weekend. Ontario lands three athletes on Junior National Synchro Team

May 18, 2005 - The 2005 Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships wrapped up Tuesday following two days of National Team Trials, where three Ontario athletes were successful in claiming spots on the Canadian Junior National Team. Courtney Brown (Markham, ON) and Jennifer Knobbs (Oakville, ON) of Olympium Synchro and Caitlin Stewart (Huntington Beach, CA) of Synchro Optima will be representing Canada at the Pan American ASUA Junior Synchronized Swimming Championships in Orlando, Florida August 18-21. April 4, 2005 - The 2005 Eastern/Atlantic Divisional Challenge was held March 30-April 3 at the Nepean Sportsplex in Ottawa. The competition hosted by Gloucester Synchro saw over 300 elite synchronized swimming athletes from Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces vie for divisional titles in figures, solo, duet and team competition. February 17, 2005 - The 2005 Provincial Synchronized Swimming Championships will be held February 18-20 at the Etobicoke Olympium in Toronto. The competition hosted by the Olympium Synchronized Swimming Club will see over 200 of the province’s most talented athletes from 16 clubs across the province vie for provincial titles over the weekend in compulsory figures, solo, duet and team competition. December 17, 2004 - On behalf of the Synchro Swim Ontario Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that Elena Podolsky has joined the Board of Directors as the Coaches Representative.  Elena has many years of coaching and related training which will certainly be an asset to the Board as well as the committees on which she will sit.  We are looking forward to working with her!
